Plant One on Me

Anyone who has seen my back yard (or the front for that matter) knows I'm not much of a gardener.

But my father dabbles in gardening and knows his plants.

And the fact that I have no skills, does not mean I don't look with envy at yards where the expertise is evident.

If you're one of those people, you might want to make some time two Saturdays from today.

On Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., a "plant exchange" will be held at the Boone Area Library in Birdsboro.

The idea is simple: Bring a plant, get a plant in exchange.

Put the plant (or plants) you wish to contribute in a bag or container and have the plant labeled.

"Here's an opportunity to make your garden more interesting, share the plants that just grew too fast and perhaps get rid of something that you didn't like too much!" read the e-mail flyer sent out by Union Township Manager Carol Lewis.

"Plant exchanges do more than improve your garden and landscape; they can also sprout friendships," she added to the bottom.
