Pottstown Mayor Honors Smallwood With Citation

Darius Smallwood, Pottstown High School Class of 2021, was honored by Pottstown Mayor Stephanie Henrick with a proclamation recognizing his good citizenship, academic and athletic success at the borough council meeting Wednesday, Aug. 4. 

Some of his athletic accomplishments include a PIAA state championship in the 800 meter dash, breaking a 50-year Pottstown record with a time of 1;51.91 and a sixth place finish at the national track championships held in Eugene, Ore.

Also, Smallwood was named The Mercury Area Male Athlete of the Year; Named to the Pioneer Athletic All Academic Team; academic honor student at Pottstown High School; earned second place at the PIAA District I Cross Country meet running the 3.1 mile course in 17:28.1; named the All Area Cross Country Runner of the Year by The Mercury; Boys Basketball Pioneer Athletic Conference All Academic Team, Mercury All Area Honorable Mention, Pioneer Athletic Conference second Team.

An honor roll student, "he is an outstanding representative of his family, school district and community," according to John Armato, the school district's director of community relations. 

"His good citizenship, academic and athletic success serve as a role model and example that hard work pays off," he wrote.
