No Tax Hike in $6.7M Lower Pottsgrove Budget

There is no property tax increase contained in Lower Pottsgrove Township's proposed $6.7 million budget for 2021.

The tax reprieve comes in the wake of the 2020 budget that raised taxes by 6.9 percent, primarily to increase the capital fund that will pay for the construction of a new $8.4 million township building on East High Street.

The township commissioners vote 3-1 last month to move ahead with the project.

The new building, designed by the Bethlehem architecture firm Alloy 5, is 16,000 square feet and will house the police department as well as the township's administrative offices.

It will be located on the corner of East High Street and South Pleasantview Road in Sanatoga.

By comparison, the current building at the corner of Buchert Road and North Pleasantview Road is only 7,500 square feet. It was built in 1990.

Of note in the proposed budget is the fact that "the payment and maintenance of the street lights will be placed in the general fund and in turn result in an estimated savings of $37 per home per year located near a street light," according to Township Manager Ed Wagner..

"In addition the sewer quarterly fee will remain the same at $136 for the seventh straight year," he said.

Township commissioners will take a final vote on the budget at the annual close-out meeting , scheduled for Dec. 17.
