Steel River Welcomes Defibrallator Contribution

The following was submitted by Steel River Playhouse.

Steel River Playhouse, Pottstown’s nonprofit education and performing arts facility located at 245 E. High St., is honored to receive an AED (defibrillator) donated by Aidan’s Heart Foundation.

Steel River Playhouse welcomes thousands of people through our doors annually, whether for performances, educational opportunities, or meetings and community events. This is an important piece of equipment, but it is prohibitively expensive – this donation enables us to have an AED accessible in our lobby area to help protect not only our patrons and artists, but our community nearby. Our staff and volunteers will be receiving training on the proper way to use the equipment as part of this donation.

According to Leena Devlin, managing artistic director, “as this community’s theater, we are often called “The Heart of High Street.” Having this heart saving device, here at our theater, gives new meaning to that phrase.”

Aidan’s Heart Foundation was formed shortly after the unexpected death of Aidan Joseph Silva in the fall of 2010 from sudden cardiac arrest. The foundation is committed to providing awareness, education, and support to the communities of the southeast Pennsylvania region and its surrounding area to create heart-safe communities for youth.

Although currently taking an intermission to protect our artists and community, Steel River Playhouse normally produces plays, musicals, concerts, and recitals. The facility offers performance opportunities for all ages through auditions, performance-based classes and workshops, private lesson recitals, and the popular Senior Follies program. Each year we welcome more than 20,000 visits for performances and educational programming as well as community and corporate meetings and events.

Educational programming include classes and workshops for all ages; an extensive summer camp program; private instruction in acting, voice, piano, and guitar; and educational outreach including classes for the public, scholarships, audience talk-backs, artists-in-the-classroom, at-theater and traveling children’s shows, after school and summer time enrichment programs, internships, and other initiatives.
