Pottstown Teachers Pitch in to Save the Lights

Pottstown School Board members Polly Weand, center, Kim Stillwell, right, and Emanuel Wilkerson, rear, pose with the $4,780 donation made to the Save the Lights campaign by the Pottstown Federation of Teachers. The teachers union members, in their neon shirts, are Mike DiDonato, Lindi Vollmuth, Beth Yoder, Patricia Dewald and Catherine Knapke.

Pottstown's Save the Lights campaign, to raise enough money to replace the lights at Grigg Memorial Field, got a boost from the district's teachers Thursday night.

The Federation of  Pottstown Teachers, used their union dues to donate $4,780 to the campaign by paying in advance for an entire year of "casual days" as a fundraiser for the campaign.

The school board also heard again from Mike Peterman, who said rather than eliminate the Air Force JROTC class at the high school, he would like to see it "re-purposed," still directed toward teaching leadership and community involvement, but without the uniforms and the drills.
