Get Funky and Break a Sweat with Santa Sunday

The Annual Funky Santa 5K has a definite spirit to it.

As shown by Joe Zlomek's photo from last year, 
race registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Pottstown’s Third Annual Funky Santa and 3-Person Relay will be held this Sunday, Dec. 2 at 9:15 a.m. at Montgomery County Community College, on College Drive, Rain, Snow or Shine!

The entry fee is $20 for the 5k or $45 per team. (Each team member runs a mile).

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues until 9 a.m. 

The race start is at 9:15 a.m. and both the 5k and 5k Relay will start at the same time.

A fun run will be held Immediately following the 5k.There is no charge for the fun run. 

"The true spirit of the Pottstown Community always continues to exceed expectations," wrote Michelle Borzick, one of the race organizers, in an announcement to my in-box.

Sometimes, there's more than one Santa in the Funky Santa 5K

"We are excited to report the numbers have grown each year and we have many already pre-registered to participate this year," she wrote.

In fact, the race already has more than 300 runners pre-registered.

"This event is appealing for both individuals to compete and families and friends to compete as a team. Additionally most participants dress in festive attire to be a part of the race and smiles of excitement can be seen from start to finish," Borzick wrote.

And what would a holiday run be without gifts?

The Funky Santa 5K awards are unique.

There will be food and refreshments after the race for all competitors and  hundreds of dollars in random prizes will be given out as well.

And then of course, there are the awards:

• Individual 5k: Overall Male and Female, 14 – Under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+. (Age group divisions could be lowered to every 5 yrs based on pre-registration- The more awards the better). 
• Awards – 5k Relay Divisions: Male; Female; Coed; Masters – all 3 over 40; Family Under 13 –at least 1 member under 13; Family 14-17; Family Open- all over 18; Corporate (2nd and 3rd place teams in each division-based on every five pre-registered teams in division). 
• Special Prizes: For the best holiday oriented costume: Individual male, female and team.
