Heritage at the Homestead

If it’s fall , that means it’s time for The Daniel Boone Homestead to celebrate its annual Heritage Day.

This year’s event, Sunday, Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature Pennsylvania German concessions, a market and craft fair and 1st Pa. Regiment flintlock shooting demonstrations.

It will also mark the opening of the new exhibit, "Myth or Truth: America’s First Frontiersman" and the unveiling of the newly remodeled visitor center.

The program will include a variety of 18th century demonstrations including rifle building, blacksmithing, spinning, food preservation and textile processing.

Children and adults will also be able to participate in various hands-on activities including candle dipping, quill pen writing and 18th century toys and games. There will also be a Native American culture presentation, open hearth cooking and baking demonstrations and colonial music and dancing.

Rich Pawling from History Alive! will also present an exciting program.

Visitors can also wander through the Market Fair located in the parade field across from the historic area.

Various craftspeople and vendors will be demonstrating and selling their creative products. Vendors include Cottage Gate Collectibles, Country Crafts and Things, Daniel Boone Spinners Guild, Oley Valley Primitives, the Philadelphia Windsor Chair Shop, Primitive Rug Hooking, Shoemaker Pottery, Svetlana Designs Jewelry, Take 2 Alpacas, and much more.

In addition to the new exhibit and remodeled visitor center, children can visit the new Hands-On History Corner in the visitor center and go on a History Detective Scavenger Hunt.

There will also be a fun, fall craft for children to work on and take home.

The Daniel Boone Homestead is located one mile north of Route 422 near Baumstown.
