For numerous years, Pottstown School District and Hill School student leaders of Pottstown CARES have collaboratively organized live concert events to benefit the homeless community in Pottstown.
These young people have been quite concerned about the great need and saddened by the fact that they cannot hold a typical, in-person event. Thus, the participating students have created a fundraiser that can be accomplished in a safe and fun way during current pandemic circumstances.
The CARES youths are aware that in the time of Covid-19 many homeless shelters have closed and have had to pivot to a new way of helping people without homes find shelter from the cold. The homeless shelter CARES has worked closely with is operated by Ministries at Main Street. The students learned that, during the 2020-2021 season, it is estimated that housing one person per week costs approximately $500.
This coming week and throughout the Halloween season, these compassionate students are asking friends to consider the less fortunate members of our Pottstown community by donating $5 (or more) per entry to their CARES Costume Contest.
How to participate:
1. Dress up in your best Halloween costume and take a photo.
2. Donate $5 (or more as you are able) at their Gofundme site and take a photo of your receipt. The link to the Gofundme site is: https://www.gofundme.com/f/pottstown-cares-halloween-costume-contest?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1
