Jared Martin |
In addition to Democrat Jill Dennin and Republican Tracy Pennycuick, the Pennsylvania Department of State confirmed this past week that Jared Martin, a Libertarian, has also qualified to appear on the ballot in the General Election.
He will appear on the Libertarian line.
Pennsylvania’s 147th District includes the townships of Douglass (Mont.), Lower Frederick, Lower Salford, Marlborough, New Hanover, Upper Frederick, Upper Pottsgrove, West Pottsgrove and the boroughs of Green Lane and Schwenksville.
"Millions of Pennsylvanians are abandoning the two major parties in favor of independent thought and action. Martin himself feels a drastic disconnect between those in power and the people they represent," reads a release from the candidate.
Martin’s grassroots campaign was able to go door-to-door and safely collect signatures from voters. "Martin and his nearly two dozen volunteers were met with enthusiasm and surprise at a third choice being presented," the release said.
"As a moderate Libertarian, Martin is confident he has the ideas that could spark change in our political process. The core idea of his campaign is that you have the right to live your life as you see fit, so long as you do no harm to others. Neither of the major parties present such an offer, and they legislate ballot access laws to keep the people from having a choice," the press release reads.

The 147th District requires 316 signatures to make the ballot as a third party. In the end, Martin’s campaign exceeded the required count by over 180.
