Getting the Trash off Pottstown Streets, Literally

Blogger's Note: The following was provided by Hobart's Run.

If you drive through Pottstown, you may have spotted some attractive, sturdy blue trash bins “branded” with either the Hobart’s Run logo or, for cans placed outside Hobart’s Run’s initial focus area, a logo that shows the partnership between that neighborhood improvement initiative and that of Pottstown Community Action.

Trash can “adopters” care for the bins by emptying and replacing the liner bags as needed. The presence of these cans definitely keep the street cleaner, as noted by citizens who have experienced a decline in litter as passers-by make use of the receptacles.

They also demonstrate residents’ neighborhood and Pottstown pride. To date, Hobart’s Run has delivered or scheduled deliveries of 18 bins to adopters.

“While Hobart’s Run has provided these durable cans to requesters free of charge, they are not inexpensive,” notes Cathy Skitko, communications director for the nonprofit, explaining that each can and its waterproof, attractive sticker costs about $200.

“Hobart’s Run is looking for businesses, nonprofits, civic clubs, or individuals willing to sponsor a can or several cans to help us grow this important program promoting a cleaner and greener Pottstown,” Skitko says.

If an organization contributes $200 to Hobart’s Run for a can, it is welcome to add a sticker with its business or entity’s logo to the receptacle. A donation of $500 to Hobart’s Run will provide three cans, and $1,000 will purchase six (naturally each donor’s branding may appear on all funded bins).

“Of course Hobart’s Run will recognize your participation and civic-minded generosity in Hobart’s
Run social media, newsletters, and other forums,” Skitko adds.

“We hope area businesses and others who are rallying behind Pottstown’s ongoing revitalization will help Hobart’s Run and Pottstown Community Action spread these cans throughout Pottstown, and keep our streets cleaner,” she says. “Current residents appreciate cleaner streets – and a cleaner town is more inviting to potential homeowners, responsible property owners, and new businesses.”
