Mont Clare Canal Day Celebration Set for Sunday

Sunday will be the 37th Annual Canal Day

The Schuylkill Canal Association will its 37th Annual Canal Day celebration at Lock 60 and St. Michael’s Park in Mont Clare, tomorrow (Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This day full of fun along the Schuylkill Canal Park, across the river from Phoenixville, includes food trucks, raffle table, and family activities.

They include: 
  • Historic Songs and Stories from Matthew Dodd(10-3); 
  • kids fishing derby (9-12); 
  • petting zoo(11-3), balloon clown (11:30-2:30);
  • face painting (12-3); 
  • raptor program (12:30-1). 
There also will be competitive activities such as the Canoe/Kayak 5-Miler Water Trail Race($20), and the International and World Renowned Canal Joust($15 or free if in costume). 

There will be kayak demonstrations and races.
Sly Fox will be providing a beer garden and KanJam tournament.
Music will be provided throughout the day at the pavilion by Holt 45(11-1), Chasing Nate(1-3) and Earth Child 3:30-5)

Event parking is available at St. Mike's Park at the end of Jacobs Street in Mont Clare and there will be a shuttle running for handicapped and pedestrians. Parking fee of $5 at St. Mike's. 

Towpath Road will be closed to vehicular traffic, starting at 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Description of competitive events is as follows:
Annual Canal Joust
  • Recreational Canoe / Kayak 5-Mile Water Trail Race – $20.00
  • Canoe and/or Kayak 5-mile water trail loop race - paddling downstream in the river, a short portage, and paddling upstream in the canal. Start time 11AM. Separate classes for racers and recreational.
  • Separate classes for single and tandem.
  • Annual Joust – $15 (One of the highlights of the day! Knock your opponent off a narrow platform and into the Canal. Best two out three wins. Men's and Women's classes. Start time 3 p.m.)
  • KamJam Tournament -- $10 a team
