Pottstown Proud Night is back for a second year to provide a night of family fun at a Reading Fightin Phils game.
The event will be May 31 at First Energy Stadium. Free tickets to Pottstown area families will be distributed this Thursday, May 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pottstown School District administration building.
Pottstown Proud Night is sponsored by eight local non-profits to promote the value of working together for the Pottstown Area community.
This year’s event has doubled, providing 700 FREE tickets to local residents on a first-come, first-served basis. Each ticket will come with $2 in food vouchers to be used at the game.
The food vouchers are being provided by Pottstown Hospital Tower Health, local McDonald’s owners Bruce and Marcia Graham, and TriCounty Community Network. Ticket printing was donated by Complete Graphics Inc., 38 E. High St.
The event is being sponsored by the Foundation for Pottstown Education, Pottstown Works, Pottstown Early Action Kindergarten, TriCounty Community Network, YWCA Tri-County Area, Family Services, The Lincoln Center for Family and Youth, and Greater Pottstown Tennis and Learning.
Special events at the game will include Ceremonial First Pitch by the recipients of the 2019 Pottstown True Blue Trojan Teacher, Community Champion honors for Pottstown elementary students recognized as the 2019 Citizenship Award winners, and local participants in the holding of the American flag for the playing of the national anthem. The Pottstown Trojan mascot will be on hand in addition to Fightin mascots.
Fireworks will be featured at the end of the game.
“The success last year inspired us to double participation by non-profits for this year – and double the number of game tickets offered to local families,” said Joe Rusiewicz, executive director of the Foundation for Pottstown Education. “Last year’s tickets were distributed in less than an hour, demonstrating the enthusiasm for this event.”
To get tickets, come to the Pottstown School District administration building, 230 Beech St., from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday May 2. Ticket and food vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be limited to one family per request.
Game time May 31 is 7:10 p.m. against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The FirstEnergy Stadium plaza opens at 5 p.m. There is ample, free parking at the stadium, 1900 Centre Ave., Reading.
